Clean Drinking Water Facilities for Kohombadigana, Sellakatharagama

About 500 families live in Kohombadigana village in Sellakataragama Grama Niladhari Division of Kataragama Divisional Secretariat in the Monaragala District.

They make a living from agriculture and the daily income from pilgrims visiting Kataragama.

Their main issue is the lack of clean drinking water.

The drinking water requirement is met from the water filtration system of the Sellakataragama school at a distance of about 3 km.  However, the village is also threatened by wild elephants, making it difficult to fetch water in the evenings.

There are kidney patients in this village who go to the Matara District Hospital for treatment.

All arrangements are being made to construct a water filtration system at a place where water is obtained from a tube well at the Sri Wimalarama Dharma Institute, Kohombadigana, Sellakataragama.

The project will be carried out with the technical assistance of the Navy and financial assistance from Mrs. Kanthi Wettamuni and Mrs. Kumuduni de Zoysa Abeysiriwardena, in memory of the late Mr. Felix R. de Zoysa.

The project commenced ceremonially on March 11th 2022.
