In the heart of Naula Divisional Secretariat, located within Matale district, lies Senagama village, a community defined by its deep rooted agricultural traditions. Home to approximately 250 families, this village thrives on the cultivation of its fertile lands, spanning over 500 acres, making it the largest farming community in the district. Among the crops that flourish under the villagers' care, sweet potatoes hold a place of pride.
However, Senagama faced a silent yet severe health challenge. Around 50 villagers are currently undergoing treatment for Chronic Kidney Disease, a stark reminder of the water quality issues plaguing the area. Recognizing the critical need for clean water, the Gammadda team swiftly intervened. Their efforts culminated in a significant initiative, the installation of a RO water filtration system in Senagama village. This vital project, commenced on July 24th, 2024, marks a turning point in the community's health and well-being.
Financial support for this endeavor comes from the Sunshine Foundation for Good, the community care arm of Sunshine Holdings, providing crucial financial backing. Technical expertise is generously contributed by the Sri Lanka Navy, ensuring that the RO system meets the highest standards of effectiveness and reliability.
For the residents of Senagama, this initiative represents more than just access to clean water. It symbolizes hope for a healthier future, free from the shadows of waterborne illness. As the filtration system begins its work, transforming water quality one drop at a time, Senagama village moves forward with renewed optimism and resilience. Each family can now look ahead with confidence, knowing that their daily lives are supported by the assurance of safe, clean water—a fundamental right that lays the foundation for thriving communities everywhere.
