Chronic kidney disease is a common occurrence in many parts of the island where clean drinking water facilities are not available. Nakkala, Monaragala has now become an another such area.
Around 44 kidney patients reported and two people have lost their lives owing to the kidney disease. Under these circumstances clean drinking water for the Tamwatta, Shasthraloka Maha Vidyalaya, Nakkala is also a problem.
Gammedda recently took action to provide a solution to this problem faced by the residents of the area. Accordingly, the water filtration system built at the Shasthraloka Maha Vidyalaya was inaugurated on the 22nd November 2024.
This will benefit the children studying at the school as well as about 650 villagers of Tamwatta. The project was financially supported by Ms.Sarojini Munasinghe and Mr. A.H. Munasinghe, from Colombo 07. The project was constructed with the technical assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy.
