An uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water is needed for the students of Dehinoori Tamil Vidyalayam to eliminate water-borne illnesses at a cost of Rs. 2,000,000/-.
This is the only school available for children who live in Dereniyagala. It is 12km away. Agriculture is the main source of income for the majority of people. They are most economically deprived and come from difficult family situations. These children have to carry water to school along with their already heavy school bags but often run out of the water as the day progresses. There is a tube well situated near the school. However, the water usually dries up during the dry season and is currently in a state of disrepair due to non-maintenance. The children are left with no access to clean drinking water.
Gammadda Engineers after studying the ground situation have decided it is prudent to refurbish the existing tube well. This plan has been studied and approved by government engineers. Furthermore, there will be a motor installed which will be connected to a water storage and water distribution system-ensuring the children have uninterrupted access to clean drinking water. Students will receive Hygiene Education & Training in Safe Hygiene Practices through the project and the school will continue to provide quality education to the children.
