Nakiyadeniya Aluthwaththa Sri Gunananda Junior School, located within the Aluthwaththa Educational Division in the Galle district, faces a significant challenge: limited access to learning resources. This obstacle impedes the educational journey of its dedicated teachers and over 250 eager students.
Recognizing the pivotal role of libraries in fostering a conducive learning environment, Principal Ven. Mahinda Thero took a proactive step by reaching out to Gammadda for support. In a heartfelt letter, he highlighted the school’s pressing need for a library—a space that not only provides books but also cultivates curiosity, expands intellectual horizons, and serves as a sanctuary for exploration.
Responding to this call, the Gammadda team, along with the very generous Mr. Vernon Udugampola, founder of the “Sylvia Lanka Foundation,” pledged to construct a library measuring 20 feet by 25 feet on the school premises. The library was successfully completed and vested to the students on July 5, 2024. This initiative aims not only to benefit the immediate school community but also over 2,000 students from nearby schools within the Aluthwaththa Education Zone.
Libraries are not just repositories of books; they are sanctuaries that nurture young minds, offer a safe haven for learning, and expose students to a wealth of knowledge across diverse subjects. This new library will serve as a beacon of opportunity, empowering students to dream bigger, learn more, and aspire to greater heights.
