Nestled in the heart of Naula Divisional Secretariat within the Matale District, Senagama village is a community deeply rooted in agriculture. Home to around 250 families, the village thrives through the cultivation of over 500 acres of fertile land, making it the largest farming community in the district. Among their crops, sweet potatoes are particularly prized as a key source of livelihood.
Despite its agricultural success, Senagama has been grappling with a health crisis. Around 50 villagers are currently undergoing treatment for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), a condition linked to poor water quality in the area. In response to this urgent need, the Gammadda team initiated a vital project to provide clean drinking water to the community.
On July 24th, 2024, the installation of a Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filtration system began in Senagama, thanks to the support of the Sunshine Foundation for Good, the community care arm of Sunshine Holdings. The Sri Lanka Navy provided technical expertise to ensure the system’s effectiveness and safety.
In a momentous event on October 16th, 2024, the project was officially vested in the public, marking a new chapter in Senagama's journey toward better health and well-being. The RO system now provides clean, safe water, ensuring that the village’s residents no longer have to fear the harmful effects of waterborne illnesses.
For the people of Senagama, this initiative offers much more than clean water it represents hope for a healthier and more secure future. Each family can now face the days ahead with confidence, knowing that their fundamental right to clean water has been fulfilled.
