On August 24, 2024, a new chapter began for Beralihela Kanishta Vidyalaya.
Located in the tranquil Lunugamwehera Education Division of Hambantota District, Beralihela Kanishta Vidyalaya is more than just a school, it's a beacon of hope for approximately 480 eager students from grades 1 to 11. Yet, for years, this beacon flickered dimly due to a pressing challenge, a severe scarcity of drinking water.
The scarcity not only hampered the daily routines of students but also placed undue stress on the staff who worked tirelessly amidst these harsh conditions.
The Gammadda Team, known for their dedication to community welfare, identified this critical issue during their Door-To-Door research survey in 2022. With unwavering generosity, Mrs. Devthilini Ramzey in memory of late mother Ms. Thelge Preethi Indramali Fernando, Late Mrs. Mohideen Saibu Siththy Faiza , Miss Nalini Piyasena, and Late Prof. Vincent Pastor Peiris joined forces to tackle the problem head-on. Their contributions fueled the installation of a much-needed storage tank and an efficient water distribution system, transforming a fundamental necessity into a reality for the students and staff.
The grand unveiling of the water system marked not just the end of a long standing struggle but the beginning of a refreshed and revitalized school experience. The students, now with access to ample clean water, can look forward to their studies with renewed hope.
