COLOMBO (News 1st)l Amidst weeks of various challenges and obstacles, the future generation of Uva Wellassa celebrated the 77th National Independence Day by joining hands with Gammedda. Over 2,000 children from the region proudly marked the occasion with a grand parade featuring numerous special events.
The Gammedda Independence Day parade commenced from the Badulla-Nuwara Eliya road, passed through Hali Ela town, and concluded at the Hali Ela Public Grounds.
The event was graced by Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Group, Head of the Sirasa Media Network, and Leader of Gammedda, Chevaan Daniel, MTV Chief Operating Officer and Gammedda Deputy Leader Yasarath Kamalsiri, senior management of Sirasa TV and News 1st, among other dignitaries.
Distinguished government officials, including Badulla District Secretary Prabath Abeywardena, Hali Ela Divisional Secretary Chaminda Weerasinghe, Hali Ela Pradeshiya Sabha Secretary A.J. Badddewithana, Uva Provincial Education Secretary Nihal Gunaratne, Badulla Zonal Education Director Sarath Ranasinghe, Bandarawela Zonal Education Director Dhammika Herath, Uva Provincial Student Cadet Corps Deputy Director Sujeewa Godage, and Badulla Range DIG Sujith Wedamulla, were also in attendance.
The Hali Ela Pradeshiya Sabha, Hali Ela Central College, and the Uva Provincial Department of Education provided significant support to ensure the success of the Gammedda Independence Day celebration.
This year, 120 students sang the national anthem during the event, followed by floral tributes to the brave heroes who fought and sacrificed their lives during the 1818 Uva Wellassa Rebellion.
The children who participated in the celebration were given the opportunity to showcase their talents to the nation and the world.
The event exemplified the strength and unity of the people of Uva Wellassa, showcasing that there is nothing they cannot achieve if they unite.
