V-Force is the volunteer wing of Gammadda. V-Force campaigns range from environmental cleanups to tree planting to school beautification. Since 2018, the Sigiriya North Gate Cleanup, V-Force has been working to pick up litter and reduce its harmful effects on ecosystems, wildlife and people. V-Force tree planting programs have addressed a variety of issues from coastal/river erosion, landslides, to promote biodiversity and in response to catastrophic wildfires. The V-Force campaigns offer participants a full day of service, learning and the opportunity to make life-long friends.
This year to commemorate Children's Day, V- Force beautified a children's home.
The home we picked is Apeksha Children's Home. It is situated in the middle of Sri Lanka in Digana near Kandy. It is not just a house for orphaned children – it’s their home. Apeksha Children's Home is a true village made up of different houses where small groups of children live under the supervision of their ‘house moms’. It also has a school for children with special needs.
After setting out early morning on a train adventure, the volunteers colour washed the dormitories, cleared out and cleaned up their playground and planted trees to contribute to the sustainability of the home in addition to giving the children gifts as well as entertaining the children with music by our volunteers.
