Summary

Residents & Students of Kumbaloluwa are experiencing an epidemic of Chronic Kidney Diseases due to their contaminated water supply.

Challenge

Kumbaloluwa in the Naula DS division is located in the Matale District. Kumbaloluwa village is home to more than 300 families. The residents are mainly farmers and daily wage laborers. People in the area struggle daily with no access to clean drinking water. Thus, they are forced to make a multi kilometer journey to collect water from a nearby village or purchase water for their drinking and other needs or purchase drinking water at exorbitant costs.

Solution

Installation of an RO Plant in the village of Kumbaloluwa using an existing water source. Install a Water Distribution Point with access to clean drinking water- free of harmful pollutants. Further, it will reduce the incidence rate of water borne illnesses in the resident population. Moreover, Gammadda will introduce a preventive and periodic maintenance plan to ensure project longevity by forming a Gammadda Saviya Society.
