Residents of Kallarawa are experiencing an epidemic of Chronic Kidney Diseases due to their contaminated water supply.
Kallarawa in the Kuchaveli DS division is located in the Trincomalee District. Kallarawa is a fishing village that is home to more than 250 families. Residents are mainly fisherfolk or daily wage labourers. People in the area struggle daily with no access to clean drinking water. They have to pay for clean drinking water. The water truck only visits periodically. To collect clean water, they have to make a multikilometer trek. Their groundwater supply is contaminated with calcium deposits. There are kidney patients currently receiving treatment in the area some others have already died. People from the village have requested Gammadda to install an R.O plant to ensure a consistent clean drinking water supply.
Installation of an RO Plant in the village of Kallarawa using an existing water source. Install a Water Filling Station situated in a central location which will provide the residents of Kallarawa and neighboring villages with access to clean drinking water- free of harmful pollutants. Further, it will reduce the incidence rate of water borne illnesses in the resident population. Moreover, Gammadda will introduce a preventive and periodic maintenance plan to ensure project longevity by forming a Gammadda Saviya Society.
