Residents of Digannawa are experiencing an epidemic of Chronic Kidney Diseases due to their contaminated water supply.
Diganannawa, a village located in Nikaweratiya within the Kurunegala District, faces significant challenges regarding its water supply. The village's water is heavily contaminated with agricultural runoff, rendering it unsafe for consumption. This contamination has led to a troubling annual incidence of at least 15 cases of kidney disease among the residents. With more than 223 families residing in Digannawa, the community endures extreme poverty. Residents are often forced to make a stark choice, drink the contaminated water or purchase clean water at prohibitive costs. This situation places an additional financial burden on families who are already struggling to make ends meet.
Installation of an RO Plant in the village of Digannewa using an existing water source. Construct Water Distribution Point for villagers with access to clean drinking water- free of harmful pollutants. Further, it will reduce the incidence rate of water borne illnesses in the resident population. Moreover, Gammadda will introduce a preventive and periodic maintenance plan to ensure project longevity by forming a Gammadda Saviya Society.
