Residents of Maarawa in the Monaragala District were suffering without access to clean water. Solutions had been tried before but consistently failed during implementation.
Maarawa residents did not have uninterrupted access to clean drinking water as their water supply dries up as the groundwater recedes during the dry seasons. Residents were using the water tank built in the health center in their village but the tank was no longer functioning properly. Additionally the tube well constructed here had also stopped working. They needed a sustainable solution to their water woes.
The Gammadda Initiative repaired the existing tube well to make the water suitable for consumption.. A new tank was installed to enhance the water storage system. This will benefit villagers, school, temple and hospital that was the health center then.
