Weherayaya Primary School is located in a remote area of the Monaragala District. The school, which has 120 students, lacks access to safe drinking water. As a result, both the schoolchildren and the surrounding villagers face significant challenges. Local residents report that the lack of clean water has contributed to an increase in chronic kidney diseases in the area, with one student from the school already affected.
In response to a request made by the school’s principal, Gammadda recently laid the foundation stone for an RO water filtration system. The project was financially supported by Dr. Parakum Ovitigala, a resident of Mirihana, Nugegoda. The system was officially handed over to the public on February 28, 2025.
